PCfix customers with Avast Internet Security

Most customers will have a 30 Day trail version of this product put on, and configured to run on your computer. If you would like to purchase this product you can go to www.Avast.com and purchase the product and license there. PCfix installs a password on Avast. The password is “pcfix” lower case letters only. This is to protect the program from someone/virus changing the settings. If you need to change anything on Avast you will need the password. When you get home Avast will see your internet and ask you if it is “Home” or “Work” or “Public”. We suggest you ALWAYS use the “Public” setting unless you are networked to other computer. This is also advisable when on the road with your pc. You can pick the number of machines and years you would like to buy. The final Avast purchase page will give you a link to the program and your license file. It will also email you with the same information. We suggest that you download and save the "License File" to a safe place if you ever might need it again. (Some customers will have Avast installed by PCfix, and will have a file located on their "Desktop" that says "Avast-Please Keep". You will not need to install a license if you have this file on your "Desktop"). You install the license by clicking on the file itself. It will ask you if you want to install this license on the machine you are on. You might need your password to open your Avast. That is listed above.

                                 Malwarebytes Free Edition (www.Malwarebytes.com)

Sometimes PCfix will also install this program. You can use if for free, but you have to click the update tab and update the product with the newest virus definitions. This product is only effective if you first update it before you run it. I suggest you run it at least one a month. It removes malware that most Antivirus programs don’t deal with. We suggest you run a Full Scan instead of the Quick Scan. Once the product has run it will ask you to Show Results. Make sure that everything it finds has a check in the box on the left of the infection. You will need to press the button to Remove Infections. It might ask you to restart your pc to completely remove the infection. Please do that ASAP.

                        CCleaner Free Edition (www.Piriform.com)

This is a free program to removed old temporary files. If this is on your computer it was used to removed these files. You are welcome to use the program to remove these types of files. There is also a registry cleaner with this program. PCfix suggest that you DO NOT USE this part of the program. You need to know what you are doing because this program can mess up your machine very badly if not used correctly. If you use it then it is at your own risk.

Updating your programs.

Microsoft like all the other companies are fixing issues that arise with security issues with their products. Adobe and Java are also constantly being infected from Hackers. The will notify you that there are updates to be done on their products. PLEASE DO THESE UPDATES. They are one of the main reasons computers are getting so infected. Putting off these updates will surely get you infected.

Windows Updates

Microsoft does a poor job of informing you of all the updates that are available to you. Some updates are listed as Optional.  The best way to find out if you are up to date is to go to the START button and look for Windows Updates Icon in your Programs. You can “Check for Updates” on Windows Vista and Windows 7 if you do not see any updates available. Make sure to click on the “Optional” updates and check the updates there that are not checked for installation. Then say “OK” and it will take you back to the Updates Page. Please then click “Install” to have them downloaded to your machine.

PCfix appreciates your business and welcomes any questions you might have. Thanks again for using PCfix.
